When Writer was working at LaSpada's Original Hoagies in Coral Springs and later at Funky Buddha Lounge in Delray Beach, his head was filled with dreams of turning his passion for words into a career. Today, the 28-year-old from Boca Raton has forsaken all other jobs to host open mikes, poetry slams and spoken-word showcases at venues such as Java Delights in Coral Springs and Dada in Delray Beach. He is also gearing up for a college tour to promote his debut CD, Eclectic Poetic. The 33-track release includes pieces such as "Cubicle Cages," Writer's take on corporate culture, and "Extremist," which concerns a guy who does everything in a big way. Far from just dry recitation, Writer's work includes hip-hop elements and that spoken-word staple, the didjeridoo. Writer's advice to artists is to exercise control over their art and find the means to benefit financially from it. "Pimp yourself," he says, "before someone else does."
