Hollywood City Commission
Hollywoodfl.org
We hate to go back and once again rehash Hollywood's ludicrous DJ law, but what the hell? After deciding that the kids were getting too uppity, the commission passed a law last year that prevented all DJs from performing in bars after midnight. Most live bands were still allowed to ply their trade, primarily so the fossils who frequent O'Hara's could continue to sip their cocktails and catch whatever interchangeable R&B band happened to be performing that night. But for hip-hop-oriented clubs, eclectic dance clubs such as Sonar and electronica fests like those put on by promoter Mitch Waas' Euphoria Project at Club Xit, it was the end of an era. Well, kind of. Sonar and many of its ilk have closed, but Xit still features dance parties, albeit sans alcohol. While Waas surely condemns drug use at his parties, one can't help but wonder if, by banning alcohol, the Hollywood City Commission made the moronic mistake of inviting in the very things it feared. Oh, well. The commission can always go down to O'Hara's and have a few old-fashioneds to forget the self-fulfilling prophecy it created through its misguided War on Fun.
