Azul 500 Brickell Key Drive Mandarin Oriental Hotel Miami, FL 305-913-8254 Few restaurants in South Florida ever generated as much buzz as Azul, nor as much controversy. The slyly inventive menu with its hints of Asian and Caribbean fusion had food fanatics calling weeks ahead for tables, but the spot lost some of its luster as the menu seemed increasingly to take a back seat to self-image making. But much of what made Azul great for food lovers remains with items such as ginger-crusted crispy snapper glazed with Vietnamese fish sauce, grouper crusted with quinoa and a pompano with chard and a sauce of mascarpone and pears that manages to just miss being too sweet and instead fills the plate with silky richness. The wine list is exceptional, making for an elegant package with a terrific view. Hours: lunch Monday through Friday, dinner daily
