Nate's Take-Out Restaurant
Delray Beach, FL 33444 561-274-0733 Visiting Delray's historic Pineapple Grove district can lead to all sorts of discoveries. Nate's, for instance. This tiny takeout-only shop specializes in homemade Jamaican lunches and dinners served with a flair for friendliness. You'll find all the usual ethnic specialties such as curry chicken and goat, oxtail, stew beef, brown stew chicken, stewed peas and cow's foot, as well as a good selection of jerk items such as pork and chicken (on the bone, white meat only or wings available). The jerk pork is especially good. A medium order is designed for hefty appetites; the large size easily feeds two. This filling meal is a pile of lean boneless pork cubes seasoned with good heat from complex spicing. You also get a mound of rice and peas, fried sweet plantains and wonderful steamed cabbage that's a carnival of colors and flavors. The cabbage is slow-simmered with tomatoes, carrots, red bell peppers and spices. You also get a square of cornbread that's so light and yummy you'll wish you had a second piece.
Besides good food, the experience includes wishes for an enjoyable meal from Nate himself.
