First impression: Inexpensive, homey, neighborhood pizzeria and Italian eatery that gives patrons the personal touch. The not-too-extensive menu covers all the necessities with pizza, salads and substantial dinners and pastas.

Ambience: Not too fancy. No table cloths, but paper towel rolls adorn each table, which I find to be quite practical whenever tomato sauce is involved.

Starters: As you'd expect, there are mozzarella sticks ($7.50) and fresh baked garlic rolls ($2.25 for six). Fried calamari ($8.99) is a generous plateful of lightly breaded squid rings (no tentacles) served plain with a dish of good marinara for dipping.

Entree excellence: Pizzas ($8.95 for a 12-inch plain cheese) start with a crust that has a nice crisp texture, with a soft and light inside. Without relying on lots of spices, the sauce is fresh tasting and light.

On the lighter side: Salad choices include a Greek ($8.95) and tuna ($8.95) or Caesar for $7.25 (add $3 for grilled chicken).

Kids: Half portions of pastas and small pizzas are available for children.

Sweet!: Augy's three homemade desserts —cheesecake, cannoli, tiramisu—are very good, generously portioned and reasonable at $4.50 each.

Service: Casual, but efficient. Being family run, I felt like I was eating at someone's home rather than a restaurant. I half expected the matronly server to scold me for not eating enough.
