On a roll Easter Sunday at Sawgrass Mills

Once again, Sawgrass Mills in Sunrise will be open on Easter Sunday.

Now, before you get all hot under the collar (like when Black Friday crept into Thanksgiving), remember that no one is forcing you to go shopping.

So go to church. Enjoy your family and your Easter feast. (Mental note: Winn-Dixie will be open, Publix will be closed.)

Sawgrass isn't opening from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on April 20 for you, anyway.

Prosperous tourists are in the cross hairs, the ones who come with bulging wallets during spring break to buy gobs of Gucci and red-bottomed shoes at Neiman Marcus Last Call.

Tourists living the good life on Fort Lauderdale beach can hop on Easter Sunday shuttles to the mall for $25 per person round trip or $30 from Miami. (Info: SawgrassMillsShuttle.com.)

These are the same tourists who roll gigantic suitcases around the mall during holiday pilgrimages to the world-famous 350-store retail mecca.

These suitcases are big enough to fit a body. Sometimes two.

I first encountered this strange shopping phenomenon years ago while on assignment on Black Friday. That was back in the good old days, when the annual event happened at the civilized midnight hour, not at an ungodly 5 p.m. on Thanksgiving.

Like a scene from "Dawn of the Dead," sleepy shoppers shuffled through the mall into the wee hours, clutching wheeled luggage and 14-foot Tommy Hilfiger receipts.

Ah, memories of the most wonderful time of the year.

Anyway, if you decide to go shopping on Easter, or today for that matter, I have a nice savings tip.

Strut your stuff over to guest services near Burlington Coat Factory or Bloomingdale's Outlet, and get your hot little hands on the Sawgrass Mills coupon book for $10.

It's 197 pages of coupons, including 10 percent off at BrandsMart USA, $5 off at Bed Bath and Beyond and $20 off at Bloomingdale's Outlet.

But before you hit Fashion Row, use the coupon for a free yacht tote with a $100 purchase at the Samsonite Outlet.

You're going to need a rolling suitcase.
