Celebrate end of summer with best events for families this weekend

School starts in Palm Beach County next week, and Broward and Miami-Dade return one week later. Celebrate the end of summer at the free Back to School Splash at Sugar Sand Park in Boca Raton from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Kids can enjoy three large water slides and a smaller slide for preschoolers, a field of bubbles, crafts, giveaways, music, concessions and more at the park at 300 S. Military Trail in Boca Raton. You can also get your students ready for school with free haircuts, backpacks and school supplies in Miami Gardens on Thursday. The giveaways are part of the free Orange Bowl’s Family Fun & Fit Day from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Betty T. Ferguson Recreational Complex, 3000 NW 199th St. Kids can enjoy bounce houses, face painters, food trucks, health screenings, a youth football clinic and concussion seminar, entertainment, games, giveaways and contests. In Broward, there is a Back to School Roundup from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Sunrise Civic Center at 10610 W. Oakland Park Blvd. Enjoy rides, music, food, workshops and a Pre-K Corral at this free event. (sunrisefl.gov)

Also, Flamingo Gardens is having a Back to School Dino Weekend with dinosaurs, water slides, bounce houses, a foam pit, crafts, games and contests, food and music and a photo op with Horacio the T-Rex on Saturday and Sunday from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. View a live presentation by paleontologist Robert DePalma from the Hell Creek Formation dig site in South Dakota, and archaeologist Robert Feeney will attend to answer questions about dinosaurs and fossils.
