The popular grocery store chain plans to open a store next year in Fort Lauderdale, north of Sunrise Boulevard in the Office Depot plaza.

Fort Lauderdale, Trader Joe's loves you, too.

The grocery chain will open a store next year at 1590 N. Federal Highway in Fort Lauderdale, north of Sunrise Boulevard, within the Office Depot plaza.

The store is part of a major move into South Florida for the popular grocer. The area's first store opened last fall in the Pinecrest neighborhood of Miami-Dade County, but six more are planned in Broward and Palm Beach counties.

The first Trader Joe's in Palm Beach County will open May 16 at 2877 S. State Road 7 in Wellington.

Other stores opening this year:

Boca Raton, 855 S. Federal Highway

Delray Beach, along Federal Highway and Linton Boulevard

Palm Beach Gardens, along PGA Boulevard and Prosperity Farms Road

Pembroke Pines, along Pines Boulevard and Flamingo Road

Opening dates for those stores have not been announced.

Trader Joe's neighborhood stores, with sought-after snacks, wine and organic produce, are smaller than typical supermarkets, and most of the products bear the company's private label. Trader Joe's says it taste-tests thousands of items each year "to find products that both appeal to the culinary adventurer and microwave aficionado."
