Anyway, after weeks of practice and preliminaries, the final phase of auditions for the Miami Dolphins Cheerleaders’ 2014 team is here for 76 prospective squad members at Sun Life Stadium (2269 NW 199th St., Miami Gardens). The final audition, which is open to the public, takes place on the Club Level from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Admission is free, parking is free, and concession stands will be open.
We like to think that crowd enthusiasm will influence the decision on who makes the final squad. Your attendance then is a matter of civic duty, really.
Another factor in the decision is online balloting happening now on the squad website: DolphinsCheerleaders.com. On a page called "You Pick the Squad," the team has pictures of each finalist and asks you to click your five favorites. The three top vote-getters will have points added to their scorecard. Online balloting will continue through 2 p.m. Saturday.
The final squad will be announced live at the end of Saturday's finals.
Winners, of course, get time on the sideline, make appearances across South Florida and the nation, and have a shot at a pictorial in the annual Miami Dolphins Cheerleaders swimsuit calendar. The Dolphins cheerleader calendar has a unique cachet, thanks to their accompanying lip-synch videos, which have generated more than 23 million views on YouTube.
The squad just finished shooting the 2015 calendar at Casa de Campo in La Romana, Dominican Republic, and the video is a little dizzying, not just for the expected reasons, but for the musical mash-up, courtesy of DJ Earworm.
After simple versions of Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe” and Taylor Swift’s “22” the past two years, the 2015 calendar video is an oddly satisfying synthesis of the Beach Boys' "Good Vibrations," Mariah Carey's "Fantasy" (already mashed with Tom Tom Club's "Genius of Love"), the Spice Girls' "Wannabe" and Calvin Harris' "Summer." Here it is. You may want to sit down before clicking.
