Nine Inch Nails, Soundgarden tour to hit West Palm Beach

Two of the 1990s' most sonically adventurous and influential rock acts, Nine Inch Nails and Soundgarden, will bring their 23-city co-headlining tour to the Cruzan Amphitheatre in West Palm Beach on Aug. 10.

Tickets are $29.50-$99.50 and go on sale noon Friday at LiveNation.com, all Ticketmaster outlets and at 800-745-3000. Fan presales can be found at NIN.com and SoundgardenWorld.com.

Both bands are scheduled to play full sets, with Death Grips opening on most dates.

Since the multi-platinum 1989 breakout album “Pretty Hate Machine,” Trent Reznor and Nine Inch Nails have provided a bruising antidote to modern rock’s mainstream impulses with songs  such as “Head Like a Hole,” “Terrible Lie,” “Closer,” “The Hand That Feeds,” “Only” and “Every Day Is Exactly the Same.”

Last fall NIN released “Hesitation Marks” (Columbia Records), which debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Alternative Albums and Top Rock Albums charts and was named one of the best albums of the year by Rolling Stone, SPIN and The New York Times’ Jon Pareles.  NIN has won two Grammy Awards, and Reznor shared an Oscar in 2011 with Atticus Ross for best original score for “The Social Network.”

The current touring lineup of Nine Inch Nails includes Reznor, Alessandro Cortini, Robin Finck and Ilan Rubin, with former Jane’s Addiction bassist Eric Avery and in-demand guitar gypsy Adrian Belew reportedly also in the fold.

Seattle-spawned Soundgarden, led by the iconic howl of Chris Cornell, is touring in support of the upcoming re-release of the seminal 1994 album “Superunknown,” which featured the Grammy-winning singles “Black Hole Sun” and “Spoonman.”

Rolling Stone’s David Fricke said of “Superunknown”: “The best albums define their time, then transcend it. ‘Superunknown’ is an honest monument to its era and birthplace. … a heavy masterpiece of vision and backbone, a classic of American, progressive hard rock made by a band that, from the start, always aimed higher and farther than its scene, peers and competition.”

The reissue package, available for pre-order now on the band website, will be released June 3 on A&M Records/UME.

Soundgarden’s most recent release is 2012’s “King Animal,” which includes two singles, “Been Away Too Long” and “By Crooked Steps,” that reached No. 1 on the rock radio charts.
