Homeward bound, Paul Simon's final tour includes stop at BB&T Center

Iconic singer-songwriter Paul Simon will perform Sept. 8 at the BB&T Center in Sunrise on the third and final leg of Homeward Bound — The Farewell Tour.

Tickets will cost $45.75-$170.75 and go on sale 10 a.m. Friday, March 16, at all Ticketmaster outlets, including Ticketmaster.com and by calling 800-745-3000. Tickets will go on sale at the BB&T Center box office 10 a.m. Monday, March 19. A series of VIP, Live Nation and venue presales begins at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 13.

Simon’s final 11 farewell performances, announced Monday, also includes a Sept. 11 concert at Orlando’s Amway Center. Tickets for that show also go on sale Friday, March 16.

The Homeward Bound tour culminates with three concerts in Simon’s hometown of New York, two at Madison Square Garden Sept. 20-21, followed by what Simon is calling his final concert performance on Sept. 22 in a venue to be determined.

“I’ve often wondered what it would feel like to reach the point where I'd consider bringing my performing career to a natural end. Now I know: It feels a little unsettling, a touch exhilarating and something of a relief,” Simon said in a statement accompanying Monday’s announcement. “I love making music, my voice is still strong, and my band is a tight, extraordinary group of gifted musicians. I think about music constantly. I am very grateful for a fulfilling career and, of course, most of all to the audiences who heard something in my music that touched their hearts.”

Simon’s distinctive body of work includes 13 studio albums, plus five studio albums as half of Simon & Garfunkel. He has won 16 Grammy Awards, including three Album of the Year awards for “Bridge Over Troubled Water,” “Still Crazy After All These Years” and “Graceland.”

Among his 14 Top 10 songs are Simon & Garfunkel’s trio of No. 1 hits, “The Sound of Silence,” “Mrs. Robinson” and “Bridge Over Troubled Water,” as well as solo singles “50 Ways To Leave Your Lover,” “Kodachrome,” “Loves Me Like a Rock,” “Mother and Child Reunion,” “Late in the Evening” and “You Can Call Me Al.”

Simon opens the first leg of Homeward Bound — The Farewell Tour on Friday, March 16, in Vancouver, a show that will be followed by 30 summer concerts across North America and Europe.
