Ticket alert: Sia at BB&T Center in Sunrise

Hot from a transcendent performance at Coachella last month, prolific pop singer-songwriter Sia has announced her Nostalgic for the Present Tour, coming to the BB&T Center in Sunrise on Oct. 29, with opening acts Miguel and AlunaGeorge.

Tickets for Sia’s first arena tour cost $30.75-$120.75 and go on sale 10 a.m. Friday, May 20, at all Ticketmaster outlets, including Ticketmaster.com and by calling 800-745-3000. Presales begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

In January, the Aussie released the critically lauded album “This Is Acting” (Monkey Puzzle Records/RCA Records), a sly collection of songs she’d written for other performers who had rejected them. The New Yorker magazine called it  “the Platonic ideal of a modern pop album.”

Sia’s recent hits include “Chandelier” and the irresistible “Cheap Thrills,” and she’s been a frequent vocal collaborator on some of pop’s most-heard songs, including Flo Rida’s “Wild Ones” and David Guetta’s “Titanium.”

Her pop-star turn at Coachella found Sia hidden behind a pair of sunglasses and obscured by dancers and pre-recorded music videos featuring guests including Kristen Wiig, Tig Notaro and Paul Dano.

In his Los Angeles Times review of Sia’s Coachella performance, August Brown wrote:

“Perhaps no one writing songs today has the same acumen for high-wire pop and EDM emotion. But her playfulness with the concept of star power (a move born out of a genuine discomfort with performing and being seen) is what separated her from the vast pack of artists trying to create #CoachellaMoments by surprise guest appearances.

“The way she played it, everyone was on stage, and no one was at all. That's a headliner move we've never seen before, and in hindsight, made for an actual moment no one saw coming.”
