Springsteen & I: See documentary in South Florida tonight

It’s been 40 years since Bruce Springsteen first put his lonesome, streetwise poetry on two 1973 albums: “Greetings From Asbury Park” and “The Wild, the Innocent and the E Street Shuffle.”

“Spirit in the Night,” “It's Hard To Be a Saint in the City” and “Growin’ Up” from the “Asbury Park” album and “The E Street Shuffle,” “Kitty’s Back,” “Rosalita” and “Incident on 57th Street” from the latter release are songs that some fans still cling to as personal tokens of some secret tribe of “true” Bruce fans.

It continues to be personal with Springsteen fans, something understood by the creators of “Springsteen & I,” a “user-generated” documentary created from more than 2,000 video submissions from fans around the world, as well as old 16-millimeter footage and early-career TV scenes.

The documentary, co-produced by Ridley Scott and directed by Baillie Walsh (most famous for his music video work with Massive Attack and a 2007 Oasis documentary), will get what is being billed as its final big-screen showings at theaters around the country Tuesday night, including 11 in South Florida.

The film is paired with extended unreleased concert footage from the London leg of the Wrecking Ball tour and the Hard Rock Calling Festival, plus a special featurette.

Presented by NCM Fathom Events and Arts Alliance Media, “Springsteen & I” can be seen (most screenings are at 7:30 p.m.) at the AMC Aventura Mall 24, Regal Magnolia Place 16 in Coral Springs, Regal Sawgrass Stadium 23 in Sunrise, Regal Cypress Creek Station 16 in Fort Lauderdale, Cinemark Paradise 24 in Davie, Cinemark Palace 20 in Boca Raton, Cinemark Boynton Beach 14, Downtown at the Gardens 16 in Palm Beach Gardens, Sunset Place 24 in Miami, Dolphin 19 Cinemas in Miami and the Regal South Beach Stadium 18.  More info:,
