As a successful comedian, author, and mother of three, Heather McDonald has learned she can't always be the perfect parent, but that's OK. "There are things, as a mom, that I think you just have to let go of," the "Chelsea Lately" correspondent says during a recent phone interview. "For instance, I'm not that friendly with the other moms. There aren't any framed pictures of my kids on my walls, because I haven't gotten around to doing it. It's not like you pop in and my house is perfect or anything."

McDonald, who penned the books "My Inappropriate Life: Some Material Not Suitable for Small Children, Nuns, or Mature Adults" and "You'll Never Blue Ball in This Town Again: One Woman's Painfully Funny Quest To Give It Up," will perform Friday and Saturday night at the Fort Lauderdale Improv.

How do you balance working and being a mom?

There are not many other married moms that are on my level of touring and doing standups. I think the main reason is because, well, first of all, Chelsea Handler gave me the platform to start doing better gigs, and then also my husband is totally great about supporting my career. He's never once said, "Don't go to this gig or don't go to that event." He's not jealous, and really happy for my success. And he's great with the kids.

In your book "You'll Never Blue Ball in This Town Again," you admit to losing your virginity when you were 27.

I actually kind of regret it. That I didn't own more when I had the chance. I didn't mean for it to be that long, but I kept thinking, "I've waited this long, so it should be with someone special. I just try to look at it like, "Well, OK, out of all the stupid things I've done, I never … didn't want to take a gig because I wanted to be with my boyfriend." … In the end, I was still able to write about it. People write about their slutty escapades, and I managed to write a funny book about my nonslutty escapades.

Who do you think is going to be this year's Miley Cyrus? [This interview took place before Justin Bieber's arrest in Miami Beach.]

I think everyone is accepting Miley's freakiness. Madonna is being kind of weird lately, with her constant Instagramming with her kid and her horrible "SNL" appearance and gold teeth. I don't know what she's doing. Shia LaBeouf may be the next Amanda Bynes this year. Maybe something could be wrong with him. And Lindsay Lohan. I still think she's going to have some train-wreck stuff happen in the future.

Heather McDonald will perform 8 and 10:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 24, and 7 and 9:45 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, at the Fort Lauderdale Improv, at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, 5700 Seminole Way, in Hollywood. Tickets cost $22. Go to Ftl.improv.com.
