To do Friday: Gossip Lip Gloss Launch, May the Fourth Strikes Back and TEDxDelrayBeach

TEDxDelrayBeach: On Friday in Delray Beach, former Miami Dolphins running back Ricky Williams will join the fray of entrepreneurs, political luminaries and raconteurs who have lectured on a TED stage. TEDxDelrayBeach, the city's first-ever independently run annex of the popular Technology, Entertainment and Design talks, chose as its topic "The Human Experience." Williams, no stranger to a national spotlight, may have a few opinions on the visionary power of human potential, as will anthropologist Sarah Nohe, opera singer Cynthia Makris and animal-rescue champion Kartick Satyanarayan. 8:30 a.m.-6 p.m. Old School Square, 51 N. Swinton Ave. $75-$100. — Phillip Valys

Costume parties

May the Fourth Strikes Back: The Green Room's regular Black Fridays party will embrace "Star Wars" during its free May the Fourth — as in "be with you" — celebration. The club's stretching the themed night over Friday and Saturday. Resident DJ Lindersmash will spin industrial goth tunes during a "Star Wars" costume contest, and the Cantina Cabaret will remind guests of those Mos Eisley scenes in the George Lucas franchise. Another burlesque troupe, the Reckless Dames, will perform Saturday. Doors open at 10 both nights. 109 SW Second Ave., Fort Lauderdale, 954-449-1025 or — Maria Murriel

Gossip Lip Gloss Launch: Elementary-school-age sisters and glamazons Kanay, 11, and Kamya, 9, are debuting their Gossip Lip Gloss at a fundraiser for the Sickle Cell Foundation, a disease Kamya is living with. The Lip Gloss costs $5 and Build-a-Bear Workshop is creating a special Gossip Lip Gloss model for $15, with a portion of proceeds from both items benefiting the foundation. The party is free and open to the public from 7 to 10 p.m. at 84 West Studios, 11850 State Road 84, in Davie. — Rod Stafford Hagwood
