To do Friday: The craft cocktails of "Hey Bartender" and Susan Seidelman's "The Hot Flashes"

"Hey Bartender": To tend bar at a trendy spot today, you have to be a professional. This documentary by director Douglas Tirola peeks behind two bars with some of the country's most-acclaimed mixologists. The early 20th century is often considered the golden age of cocktails, and today's drinkmakers add modern ingredients to recipes from the era while creating hip atmospheres in which patrons are willing to dish out $20 per drink. "Hey Bartender" explores the new bar scene, and runs at O Cinema Wynwood through July 18. 305-571-9970 or — Maria Murriel

"The Hot Flashes": Susan Seidelman, director of "The Boynton Beach Club," calls "The Hot Flashes" a rarity: a major-studio release that showcases mature female actresses in a story aimed at mature females. The comedy follows a group of small-town middle-aged women, friends since their high-school basketball days, who take on the current girls high-school state champs to raise money for a mobile mammogram unit. Stars include Brooke Shields, Wanda Sykes, Daryl Hannah, Camryn Manheim and Virginia Madsen. The story inspired Seidelman's mom, Florence, of Boynton Beach, to rally local cancer organizations to provide information and speakers at opening-weekend screenings of "The Hot Flashes" at Movies of Delray (7421 W. Atlantic Ave.). They include the Pap Corps, Delray Medical and Susan G. Komen for the Cure. For show times, go to or call 561-638-0020.
