Ben Greenman: "It's not the most-exciting thing to get up in a bookstore and read a book that you wrote," this Miami-raised writer said in a 2011 interview. "It's not as interesting I would guess — though I've never done it — as being a dancer." Greenman may not treat his audience to a pirouette Thursday at Books and Books in Coral Gables, where he'll promote his new novel, "The Slippage," but the New Yorker editor can be counted on to crack a few jokes. He did, after all, create "Ben Greenman's Fake Celebrity Musicals" for McSweeneys.net (where you'll find "LeBron! The Musical" and "Death Comes for Britney Spears!"). 8 p.m. Free. Festivals

On the Ave: First, it was Art and Jazz on the Avenue. Two years ago, it became Arts, Beats and Eats. Now, Atlantic Avenue's signature series operates under the spartan moniker On the Ave, and for that, we're grateful. The downtown Delray Beach staple will feature open-air art exhibits, wine and craft-beer stations and a classic car show between Fourth and Fifth avenues and between Swinton and First avenues. The Delray Beach Center for the Arts takes over Old School Square with a beer garden, along with cooking demos and a music bill that features subtropical popmaker Mike Mineo, doo-wop band Ferry and the Gigolos, and Beatles tribute act Across the Universe. 6-10 p.m. Free. 561-279-1380 or OnTheAveDelrayBeach.com. — Phillip Valys

Concerts

Nicole Henry: The dreamy headliner of last year's Jazz in the Gardens has a new album, "So Good, So Right: Nicole Henry Live," that is a testament to Henry's reverential 1970s sound, filled as it is with tributes to Gladys Knight ("Neither One of Us"), Joni Mitchell ("Big Yellow Taxi") and Stevie Nicks ("Landslide"). The Miami chanteuse will perform on a double bill supporting the release at 7 and 9 p.m. Thursday at Jazziz Nightlife (201 Plaza Real, Boca Raton). $35-$65. 561-300-0732 or JazzizNightlife.com. — Phillip Valys
