To do Thursday: 'The Longing and the Short of It,' Take 3 fundraiser and '8-Track -- the Sounds of the '70s'

Take 3 fundraiser: The ambitious bunch behind Fort Lauderdale's art-house theater Cinema Paradiso are keen on unveiling their Hollywood annex by September, which at completion will house 100 seats and offer live music and a full-liquor bar. Their latest fundraiser, the third since February, will take place from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Sage French American Restaurant and Oyster Bar (2000 Harrison St., Hollywood). A $20 cover includes two free drinks, hors d'oeuvres, free valet parking, a raffle and a silent auction and, for those people who donate $500 or more, a $100 Sage gift card. 954-985-4169 or Valys

"The Longing and the Short of It": Delray Beach's Arts Garage is the setting for Daniel Maté's play-reading, the first of a three-part series debuting Thursday night. The award-winning New York-based playwright has a work that incorporates a theatrical song cycle about "six mixed-up strangers in a room," and is part of a new Arts Garage initiative called Summer Tune-Up, which presents new musical theater shows to fans who are "tired of a constant diet of the old warhorses." 7:30 p.m. $15-$100. 561-450-6357 or — Phillip Valys

"8-Track — the Sounds of the '70s": This new-but-really-kinda-old revue is a jukebox musical from a time when there still were actual jukeboxes. A quick-paced boombox for Baby Boomers, the show includes the music of the Bee Gees, Helen Reddy, Barry Manilow, Marvin Gaye, KC and the Sunshine Band, the Emotions, the Carpenters, the Doobie Brothers and LaBelle. 7:30 p.m. at the Plaza Theatre, 262 S. Ocean Blvd., in Manalapan. $38. 561-588-1820 or (click on "box office" and then "to order tickets online click here"). — Rod Stafford Hagwood
