The 28th International Hispanic Theatre Festival: The Miami-based Teatro Avante is the presenter of this bilingual performing-arts fair, opening Thursday with the Spanish-only program "Los Rios Profundos." Adapted from Peruvian author José María Arguedas' 1958 novel, the coming-of-age play follows 14-year-old Ernesto as he attends a religious boarding school and interacts with the indigenous farmers as well as an arrogant and greedy landowner named El Viejo. Showtimes are 8:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts (1300 Biscayne Blvd., Miami). Hot Dog Eating Contest: Sixty contestants are set to compete for the $1,000 prize offered at Mardi Gras Casino's second annual competition. To be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, it will be hosted by Steve Harmon of the "Paul and Young Ron Morning Show." The public is invited to cheer on the contestants. 831 N. Piano Hollywood: Fans of piano music, spoken-word poetry and the club scene will want to check out the grand opening of Piano Hollywood Thursday night at Seminole Paradise at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. The new venue will be managed by Miami mixologists Brian Basti (of Grand Central, the Garret and PS14) and Megan Laich (of Bardot, the Electric Pickle and the Marlin). Tonight, Brendan O' Hara and Hal Roland. O'Hara (of the Big Bounce) will provide the jazzy piano tunes, and Ingrid B (of Bside Entertainment ) will present a spoken-word performance by Anomaly. 8 p.m. Free. — Micaela Hood
