Theater

"Grease": All that children's laughter you hear at South Florida's professional theaters can mean only one thing: Summer camps are in swing. The budding teen thespians at the Broward Center's Summer Theatre Camp will be flaunting all that stage experience Thursday at the Parker Playhouse with their mounting of the 1950s rock 'n' roll musical. The feel-good Broadway import, featuring songs such as "You're the One That I Want," will be handled by a group of hip-swinging young actors who, from a distance, could very well look like John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John. (Parents, use your imagination.) $10. Ends Aug. 9. 954-462-0222 or ParkerPlayhouse.com. — Phillip Valys

Buick Encore giveaway: Many casinos end their months with a car giveaway, but Calder Casino and Race Course (21001 NW 27th Ave., Miami Gardens, 305-625-1311, CalderRaceCourse.com) is doing it backward in August. Slot players who come to the casino and swipe their cards on Thursday get an entry to win a red 2013 Buick Encore and earn additional entries for every 10 points they collect. Finalists' names will be drawn every 30 minutes from 7:30 to 10 p.m. The winner at 10:30 p.m. gets the car. Everyone else, hopefully, already has a ride home. — Nick Sortal
