To do Tuesday: The Lovin' Spoonful of Southern Hospitality

The Lovin' Spoonful: Mardi Gras Casino will host a 1960s costume contest at 6 p.m. Tuesday, followed by an 8 p.m. concert by the Lovin' Spoonful ("Do You Believe in Magic?" and "Summer in the City"). You probably don't remember it, but the band enjoyed quite a hot streak from 1965 to 1966, earning seven top-10 hits. (On AMC's "Mad Men," Sally Draper and Glen Bishop are fans of the group.) The prize for best costume is $1,000 cash, with the runner-up receiving $500 in bonus play. The concert will take place at the Mardi Gras grandstand. General admission at the gate is $20, and premium seating is $25. Both prices include $10 in free casino play. Mardi Gras Casino is located at 831 N. Federal Highway. Southern Hospitality: The band's debut album, the Tab Benoit-produced "Easy Livin'," opened strong at No. 9 on the Billboard Blues chart in March. Admirers of the supergroup consisting of lap-steel guitarist Damon Fowler, keyboardist Victor Wainwright and guitarist JP Soars may find this statistic unsurprising, considering the dynamic musicality of each performer's solo career and the tight charisma the musicians share onstage. And fans will remain unsurprised when the roots-rockers deliver their New Orleans-flavored sound at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Boston's on the Beach (40 S. Ocean Blvd., Delray Beach).
