Stuffing your face with turkey and trimmings and then crashing on the couch to watch football is certainly a Thanksgiving Day tradition. But it's not the only one.

Turkey trots, 5K and 10K runs and run/walks held on Thanksgiving, are booming in South Florida. At least eight now take place here.

"It's just a great way to start the holiday off, and gets the appetite going," says Alex DeGracia, an event manager for U.S. Road Sports, which conducts the Baptist Health South Florida Turkey Trot. "And you get ahead on burning off calories."
