'Everyday women' focus of Fort Lauderdale swimwear event

1426 Curves Swim Week launches in Fort Lauderdale.

If looking at rail-thin women modeling swimsuits doesn't do it for you, then you may want to check out 1426 Curves Swim Week, taking place June 23-25 in Fort Lauderdale.

"We call it 1426 because the models are between the sizes of 14 to 26," organizer Linda Scott explains. "As we all know, the average size of a woman [in the U.S.] is a 14. So we are putting all these styles on the runway to showcase our beautiful bodies."

A catwalk show will begin 6 p.m. Saturday, June 25, at Embassy Suites by Hilton, 1100 SE 17th St., in Fort Lauderdale. Tickets cost $35 general admission and $50 VIP.

On Thursday, June 23, and Friday, June 24, a one-day cruise, workshops, afterparty and other events will occur at various locations. For a complete schedule and ticket information, go to 1426-FashionWeek.com and click on the "Tickets" tab at the top of the page.

This is the first time Scott has produced the show in South Florida (there was a test run in Houston last year), and she timed her event to get a jump on the Miami Swim Week shows in mid-July.

"At those Miami shows, you normally see women who are size zero to size 2, where in our showcase," she says, "you will see models who look like everyday women. We love our skin we're in."
