Mother's Day: Take Mom on a garden tour
This Mother’s Day, forget sending her flowers.

Instead, spend a day with the mom in your life wandering among the blooms at a South Florida garden off the beaten path.

Mounts Botanical Garden’s Connoisseur’s Garden Tour

Secret Woods Nature Center

This 57-acre oasis on the south fork of the New River was Broward County’s first nature center. Its crowning jewel is a natural sandy bank on the river.

On Sundays, naturalists lead free nature walks along the picturesque New River Trail, an elevated boardwalk snaking along the water. Pass through three ecosystems influenced by the river. See the freshwater cypress, maple wetland and Butterfly Island.

Hours: 9 a.m-5 p.m. daily; nature tours 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Sundays and the first Saturday each month

Hours: 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Wednesday-Sunday
