The Olympic Games kick off Friday night in Rio de Janeiro, and some locations in South Florida will be broadcasting the opening ceremony and events. Here are local places to cheer on your favorite athletes while enjoying drink and food specials.
JohnMartin's Irish Pub & Restaurant is having a Brazilian-themed celebration to start the Olympics season. Festivities include a Brazilian dancer, a Gisele Bundchen look-alike contest, prizes and masks. They also offer Brazilian food and drinks, like the caipirinha, Brazil's national drink, made with cachaça, a sugar-cane rum, sugar and lime. The Brazilian drinks cost $8 and small plates range from $5 to $8.50. There will also be a happy hour from 4 to 7 p.m., with house drinks starting at $3.50.

BLT Prime is getting a start on the Summer Games by offering several dishes named after some of the nations participating in the Olympics. Options include the Jamaica burger – a jerk-pork patty and grilled pineapple combo, topped with pepper jam and plantain chips. American Social will toast with the Brazilian spirit, Soul Cachaca, with the launch of a new cocktail menu, beginning on Friday until August 21. The sports bar and lounge has two locations, in Fort Lauderdale and Miami. The varied menu will include five types of traditional caipirinha cocktails, each representing a country, for $13. Specialty cocktails include drinks inspired by the United States, Brazil, Mexico, Spain and Italy.

The lounge at the Setai will transform into a Copacabana Beach-like atmosphere where guests will be able to enjoy beach views, Brazilian tunes and the Olympic Games on the big screen. Beginning on Friday, the lounge will offer a $16 cocktail special, featuring a mix of vodka, lemon, lime, and champagne, with gummy rings on top, doubling as Olympic-Rings.
