'Fiscal' responsibility from the Capitol Steps?

Their new show (and album) is called “Fiscal Shades of Gray,” and it’s hard to imagine a more effective way for the satirical Capitol Steps to lampoon the profligacy of Washington politicos than by scheduling two weeks of performances in South Florida – but interrupting them every few days with flights back to D.C. for one-off shows there.

Between Tuesday’s opening-night performance at the Kravis Center and the closer in the same theater on March 9, the Capitol Steps, many of them former Capitol Hill staffers, will also make five appearances for their well-connected friends in Washington, D.C., Virginia and Maryland.

Assuming they ratchet up the humor by flying first class back and forth between PBIA and Reagan National, carrying on plenty of luggage and tipping every limo driver in an ostentatiousness manner for the inevitable YouTube posts, we’re talking real money here. Like, Ted Cruz hair product money.

But, no.

“You'll notice sometimes we're in two places at once. This is not a mistake!” the troupe says at CapSteps.com. “The Capitol Steps have multiple casts, allowing us to perform in different cities on the same date (the result of having large numbers of unemployed Hill staffers on our hands).”

Of course, this is a win for the nation, but we’re saddened that there will be no video of them lighting Cuban cigars with $100 bills at PBIA. And just think of the fun to be poked at the interstate highway system with their limo racing down I-95 between same-day performances at the Kravis Center and Broward Center this week.

Now, that would be rich.
