Colleen Bokamper, wife of former Miami Dolphins linebacker Kim Bokamper, died Friday morning at her home with her family by her side. She was 57.

Mrs. Bokamper, who was diagnosed with colon cancer two years ago, kept her illness a secret and made her husband of 33 years do the same.

“She was the kindest person I’ve ever met. She was all about her two daughters. That was her life,” said Kim Bokamper, a sports broadcaster for WFOR-TV and the owner of Bokamper's Sports Bar & Grill, a popular chain of restaurants in Broward and Collier counties.

“The day she couldn’t communicate anymore all she asked me to do is take care of our two daughters,” Bokamper said. “They were everything to her.”

Sensing her time was short, the family held a three-day vigil at the Bokampers’ Plantation home.

“We got a lot of quality time in,” said a grieving Bokamper, who said his wife insisted that few know about her diagnosis.

“She never wanted to be a bother to anyone,” he added. “That’s just how she was.”

Mrs. Bokamper is survived by her husband, who played all nine of his NFL seasons with the Dolphins and was a member of the team’s “Killer Bs” defense, and her daughters Courtney, 28, and Kimberly, 21.

A funeralMass will be 11 a.m. Monday at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, 200 N. University Drive in Plantation. Instead of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Colleen Bokamper’s name to the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, P.O. Box 016960, Miami, Fla., 33101.
