A Fort Lauderdale police patrol car hit a utility pole on Monday but no injuries were reported, officials said.
The incident occurred around 3:45 p.m. at the 300 block of East Broward Boulevard.
The patrol car was driving westbound when it appeared to swerve to avoid rear-ending a bronze Honda Element. The SUV's right rear tail light was damaged but the patrol car jumped the curb and hit a utility pole in front of the First Baptist Church of Fort Lauderdale, witnesses said.
Several police officers arrived within minutes to render aid but both drivers were out of their vehicles and walking around surveying the damage. The crash blocked the right lane for about 30 minutes but rush hour traffic was able to navigate around the crash scene.
