A Hollywood man fatally shot his new girlfriend, made the crime scene look like she had killed herself and then reported the fake suicide, according to the Broward Sheriff's Office.
Carlos Cadavid, 23, and Krizia Nunez, 22, of Aventura, had been going out for just four days, detectives learned.
Her body was found in a room at the Grand Motel, 430 S. Federal Hwy., around 3 a.m. Friday. Deputies noticed that the physical evidence didn't add up to suicide, sheriff's spokeswoman Dani Moschella said.
"When our deputies first arrived they were investigating a reported self-inflicted gunshot wound," she said. "It didn't look completely right to them and they notified our homicide detectives."
It didn't take long for detectives to determine that foul play might be involved, she said.
An autopsy was performed on the victim's body and the Broward Medical Examiner's office concurred, ruling the woman's death a homicide.
During questioning, Cadavid admitted to detectives Friday afternoon that he had killed his girlfriend, officials said. He was facing a charge of first-degree murder, jail records showed.
Investigators are urging anyone with information to call Detective Bryan Tutler at 954-321-4210 or report anonymous tips to Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477 or go to browardcrimestoppers.org. Crime Stoppers will pay up to $3,000 for information that leads to an arrest.
