There's a new phone application that connects South Florida couples with restaurant deals for date nights.
It's called "Date Night Florida," and it's aimed at helping couples enjoy some one-on-one bonding time.
"It's a really fun innovative way to help couples really be intentional in their relationships,'' said Tim Popadic, director of Date Night Florida, who referred to intentional as "taking steps toward each other ... building trust with intentional time."
"The initiative is designed to help enrich all relationships dating, engaged, or married," he added.
Here's how it works: Users download a free phone app that lists ideas for dates as well as coupons for 16 local restaurants. The coupons can be used for desserts, side orders or cocktails at participating businesses, including Big City Tavern and Rocco's Tacos in Fort Lauderdale and Grease Burger Bar and City Cellar in West Palm Beach.
The app also offers conversation topics and quizzes for couples to engage in during their night out.
"When you download the app, you can invite your partner in the app. It connects your two phones. You can literally share whatever you are looking at with your partner,'' Popadic said.
The initiative is supported by Live the Life, a faith-based nonprofit that focuses on strengthening marriages and families. The group has an office in Oakland Park.
The dating challenge program began in West Palm Beach in 2010, and has since gone national. In Florida, it's rolling out to other cities such as Tallahassee, Fort Meyers, Orlando and Tampa this fall.
