This weekend's family fun: Hurricane prep event, BookFest, grand openings

The new “Rescue” exhibit opens at the Museum of Discovery and Science in Fort Lauderdale this weekend, coinciding with a rare free admission day and hurricane preparedness event at the museum on Saturday.

There is also a Children’s BookFest in Coral Springs, Paddletopia in Surfside, the Dania Beach Art and Seafood Fest, the opening of Brightline’s MiamiCentral station, an Especially for Kids Event in Boca Raton and more.

Rescue Exhibit Opening and Eye of the Storm event, Saturday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Get ready for hurricane season with an exhibit on hurricane science, mitigation and preparedness. Explore the Storm Center, where you'll meet local meteorologists and do a hurricane broadcast together. There will also be live theater shows and a hurricane shutter showroom.
