Police are searching for the driver who hit and killed a 15-year-old boy early Sunday.
The crash happened at 1:06 a.m. Sunday in the 2700 block of West Broward Boulevard, said Fort Lauderdale Police. Police identified the teen who was hit as Justin Flowers, of Pompano Beach.
The driver was traveling west on West Broward Boulevard in an older model, dark-colored Jeep Cherokee when Flowers crossed the street from south to north, said Fort Lauderdale Police spokeswoman Det. DeAnna Greenlaw
As Flowers walked through the westbound center lane, the driver changed lanes, striking the boy and throwing him to the ground, said Greenlaw.
The driver fled west on West Broward Boulevard and then made a turn north onto State Road 7, police said.
Flowers was taken to Broward Health Medical Center where he later died.
Family members and friends held a vigil for Flowers Sunday night close to the location where he was killed.
His older sister, Tatyana Flowers, recalled Justin as a good-natured teen and urged the people with information about the crash to come forward.
"I just want whoever hurt by little brother to be behind bars or whatever consequences and punishment come their way because this is not justice. This isn't right," Tatyana Flowers told WFOR-Ch. 4.
Police ask anyone with information to call Traffic Homicide Investigator Cheri Creque at 954-828-5825.
