Elderly Man Shot In Lauderhill Trying To Break Up Fight

A suspect and his handgun are being sought by Lauderhill police after a 74-year-old man tried to break up a fight among girls Monday night and was wounded by gunfire.

"Our initial investigation shows that the victim stepped in and tried to break up a fight between two groups of girls, and the suspect interjects himself, pushes the victim to the ground and fires," said Lauderhill Police Lt. Greg Solowsky.

The shooting happened about 9:15 p.m. in the 5700 block of Northwest 27th Court, near busy Northwest 56th Avenue, Solowsky said. The neighborhood is west of Florida's Turnpike and south of West Oakland Park Boulevard.

The wounded man was shot once and was taken to Broward Health Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale. He was expected to be released Tuesday, Solowsky said.
