For the first time, Broward County will be the site of the JCC Maccabi Games, where 1,500 teenage athletes, including 300 local ones, will compete in 12 different Olympic-style events.
The event is the second largest organized sports program in the world for Jewish teens and will be held on Aug. 9-14, 2015, at venues around the county, according to the David Posnack Jewish Community Center in Davie.
In addition to athletes, 300 coaches and 1,000 volunteers will be involved in the program. It is expected to generate about $1.8 million for local hotels and related businesses.
"The 2015 Games coincide with Broward County's 100th anniversary and are an exciting opportunity to highlight Broward's many athletic venues and other great amenities," said Debby Eisinger, an event co-chair.
