Margate man accused of trying to lure teenage girl, exposing himself

A Margate man tried to lure a teenage girl into his rental car and exposed himself to her, police said.

Elisha Greenwood, 36, is charged with lewd and lascivious exhibition and was ordered held on a $50,000 bond during a first-appearance court hearing Friday.

According to the report, the incident happened on Valentine's Day in the 5100 block of Southwest 11th Street, where Greenwood made sexual comments to the 15-year-old girl about her body as she walked home.

He tried to lure the girl to his rented white Volkswagen by asking her for directions and he also blocked her path by parking the car in a driveway, the report said.

The girl noticed that Greenwood exposed his genitals and was masturbating as he talked to her, police said.

She provided investigators with the car's tag information, which helped police track Greenwood down.

The rental company confirmed that Greenwood had rented the car during the date of the alleged incident, authorities said.

Greenwood denied the allegations to investigators, but did say that "he was possibly in the area driving around," the report said.

Sgt. Lori Eller said that there were no other reports of similar incidents in the area. She called the girl's alertness in capturing the tag number "commendable."

On Friday, Greenwood told Broward Judge John "Jay" Hurley that he had lived in South Florida for four years and that he worked for a moving company. However, he had no Florida ID or driver's license, according to court testimony.

"It does look like you preyed on a young girl while she was isolated and alone," the judge said.

Greenwood's past criminal history includes convictions for identity theft in Delaware and writing bad checks in Pennsylvania, according to a prosecutor.

Authorities urge anyone with reports of similar incidents to contact the Margate Police Department at 954-973-7222.
