'Florida: The Other Hollywood' TV show features local music, arts scene

Hooray for Hollywood — Hollywood, Fla., that is!

WPBT2 will showcase the city's music and arts scene for an episode of "Music Voyager,'' a national music travel show produced by American Public Television. The half-hour program, called "Florida: The Other Hollywood,'' airs 7:30 p.m. June 11.

Hollywood was selected because it "has got this resonating indie kind of a sound," executive producer Farook Singh said. "While Miami is famous for its sounds, Hollywood is very broad in its approach. Hollywood was more of bring-your-own style, it doesn't matter, as long as it's good music."

Crews spent six days in December capturing the coastal community with lush aerial shots of a lit-up Young Circle at night and a visitor zipping along the Broadwalk on a Segway.

After the local debut, the episode will air nationally on the Create TV network at 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. on July 23 and 25. Producers are exploring the possibility of doing similar episodes in Fort Lauderdale and Miami.
