For a few minutes, it looked like the school district was trying to cut winter vacation short.
"The School District of Palm Beach County is hoping all its families are enjoying their Winter Break. Don't forget classes resume on Monday, January 6, 2014," said the district Facebook message posted Friday evening.
What the school district forgot is that classes actually resume on Tuesday. According to the calendar on the district's web page, Monday is a teacher work day. Students should stay home.
The district's Facebook followers wasted no time in pointing out the error.
"Sounds like the Taj could use a 'work day' to 'work' on their calendar," Bill Cragun wrote, referring to the "Taj Mahal" nickname used to describe the district's headquarters.
Debra Saracione-Wasserman decided to take the district at its word.
"Okay, I'm sending my kid to school on Monday," she wrote. "Hope you're ready."
The district corrected the error within an hour.
"We apologize for the confusion on our previous post!" the message read. "To clarify, teachers return to work on Monday, January 6 and classes resume on Tuesday, January 7. Have a great weekend!"
