$1M raffle ticket sold in Miami

South Florida is starting to get its hands on that raffle money.

The 25th Anniversary Millionaire Raffle, which will produce a $1 million winner for six weeks through Dec. 24, yielded a winner Monday who bought a ticket in Miami. The exact location: Publix at 12100 SW 17th Ave. The person has 180 days to come forward and claim the loot.

Of the 50 $1,000 consolation prize winners in Monday's drawing, 17 were from South Florida. Get the full list at http://www.floridalottery.com/inet/MillionaireRaffle-WinnersList.do. The first winning ticket was sold Nov. 20 in Tampa.

As opposed to lottery-type games, such as Powerball and the Florida Lotto – which may or may not produce a winner after a drawing -- a raffle consists of selling a specific number of tickets and guaranteeing a prize.

In this case, each Monday through Dec. 23, players’ tickets sold for that week are entered into a drawing. But lottery officials warn those who didn’t win to hang onto those tickets There’s a grand prize drawing on Dec. 31 for $2 million, plus 10 $100,000 winners and 550 other consolation prizes. Every ticket sold from now through Dec. 30 will be eligible.
