That's a pretty good scratch: Two South Floridians turned $10 tickets into $1 million this week, according to Florida Lottery officials.
Helen Tandy, of West Palm Beach, claimed a $1 million top prize in the 50X THE CASH Scratch-Off game. She purchased her ticket at Winn-Dixie, located at 1225 W. 25th St. in Mangonia Park.
Tandy chose a one-time payment of $800,000.
The $10 game, 50X THE CASH, offered eight top prizes of $1 million. Three of those top prizes remain to be won.
Meanwhile, Oscar Calzadilla, 75, of Hialeah, claimed $1 million in the $1,000,000 Wishes game. He purchased his winning Scratch-Off ticket at Coral Way Pharmacy, located at 6965 SW 24th St. in Miami. His one-time, lump-sum payment was $840,089.99.
Lottery winners have the option of posing for a photo or declining, and a happy Calzadilla chose the former -- and invited his family to join in. A few probably even said that they love him more now than they did, oh, a week ago.
The $10 Scratch-Off game, $1,000,000 WISHES, offered three top prizes of $1 million, and two of those prizes remain to be won.
Holiday scratch-offs are on the way, including $1,000,000 Wishes, Holiday Magic, Happily Holidays Holiday Cash and a scented, scratch-and-sniff ticket Gingerbread Dough. The games range in price from $1 to $10.
