On Wednesday, Feb. 14, Valentine’s Day, romance will be in the air at South Florida casinos.
For early lovebirds, Palm Beach Kennel Club (1111 N. Congress Ave., West Palm Beach, 561-683-2222, PBKennelClub.com) will offer lunch specials at its premier eateries. Swordfish at the Paddock will go for $27, and snapper at the Terrace will cost $14.95. Reservations are recommended.
NYY Steak at Seminole Casino Coconut Creek (5550 NW 40th St., 954-977-6700, CasinoCoco.com) will serve specials a la carte plus a prix fixe dinner that includes a bottle of Taittinger Brut Champagne, amuse-bouche, lobster bisque or heirloom-tomato salad, Chateaubriand and chocolate-crunch bar. The cost is $250 per couple.
The casino’s Sorrisi will offer a la carte as well as $85 prix fixe dinners from 5 to 11 p.m.
Gulfstream Park Racing and Casino (901 S. Federal Highway, Hallandale Beach, 954-454-7000, GulfstreamPark.com) has 15 restaurants.
But be sure to sing duets at the complex’s PlugIN Karaoke, which has 18 private rooms. Valentine’s Day tickets cost $49 per person and include unlimited love-themed cocktails and chocolate goodies. My two favorites for romantic karaoke are Elton John’s “Love Song” and Guns N’ Roses’ “Sweet Child o’ Mine.” It depends on the mood.
If you want to celebrate early, attend the Feb. 10 Valentine’s performance of Venezuelan tenor Ghaleb at the Casino at Dania Beach (301 E. Dania Beach Blvd., 954-920-1511, CasinoDaniaBeach.com). The show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets cost from $35 to $125.
A CASINO ON YOUR PHONE
Now you can play Seminole Hard Rock casino games on your desktop and mobile devices, including slot machines, blackjack and roulette.
Called “social games” because payment isn’t required for basic games and because the prizes are virtual credits, they debuted on Monday.
The games expand the branding of Seminole Gaming, which owns seven casinos on Indian reservations in Florida, and Hard Rock International, which owns, licenses and/or manages 11 casinos globally. The Seminole Tribe of Florida, based in Hollywood, owns both companies.
The games were developed by Greentube Internet Entertainment Solutions, a subsidiary of Novomatic Group, which is one of the biggest producers and operators of gaming technologies.
Players can link social games to their Hard Rock Wild Card rewards accounts to earn points for merchandise, dining and other prizes.
HERE COMES YOUR MANILOW
Pop legend Barry Manilow (“Looks Like We Made It,” “Mandy”) will perform at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino (1 Seminole Way, Hollywood, 800-937-0010, SeminoleHardRockHollywood.com) on Feb. 21, with tickets costing from $65 to $180.
But before that, he’s donating a Yamaha keyboard to South Broward High School as the launch of a musical-instrument drive. Any resident who drops off a new or gently used instrument at the high school on school days between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. will receive two free tickets to Manilow’s concert.
