Isle Open Poker Tournament yields big winners

On Sunday, Event 1 of the Isle Open Poker Tournament, a $175 no-limit hold ’em, ended in a nine-way chop out of 1,239 entries. Christopher Gilkey, of Lake Worth, was declared the winner, pocketing $13,765. Another Lake Worth resident, Arno Kruger, became the runner-up, taking home $13,194.

The tournament runs Oct. 4-31 at Isle Casino Pompano Park (777 Isle of Capri Circle, Pompano Beach, 954-972-2000, TheIslePompanoPark.com) and has $1.1 million in guaranteed payouts.

Action over the next week includes more no-limit hold ’ems, deep-stack turbo bounties, Omaha 8B hi/lo and a seniors NLH championship, with buy-ins ranging from $60 to $360.

JACKPOT!

With a $10 bet, Carol Hudiak, of Lighthouse Point, won a $10,000 jackpot on Saturday, Oct. 7, at the Isle. She was playing the Double Diamond slot machine. Judy Davis won $2,079.29 the following day with a $2 bet on the Lock It Link game.

Between Oct. 1 and Oct. 9, four more slots players won jackpots of more than $10,000, director of marketing operations Jen Swope says, but their names are being kept secret.

TRACKING A CURE

Palm Beach Kennel Club (1111 N. Congress Ave., West Palm Beach, 561-683-2222, PBKennelClub.com) will host a track walk noon Saturday, Oct. 28, to raise funds for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

For a $25 donation, walkers get an “On Track To Beat Cancer” T-shirt. Proceeds go to local charities.

Scheduled for the afternoon program is a special “On Track To Beat Cancer” race featuring some of the pari-mutuel’s fastest greyhounds.

As we head into tourist season, local casinos are announcing more concerts featuring big names.

On Nov. 18, comedian David Alan Grier will tell jokes at the Casino at Dania Beach (301 E. Dania Beach Blvd., 954-920-1511, CasinoDaniaBeach.com). Tickets cost from $20 to $35 ($75 for VIP tickets).

Reggae band the Wailers (“Buffalo Soldier,” “No Woman, No Cry”) will perform in Dania ($25-$35) on Jan. 6.

On Jan. 27, soft rockers Air Supply (“All Out of Love,” “Every Woman in the World”) will play ($20-$90) in the new lawn section at Magic City Casino (450 NW 37th Ave., Miami, 305-649-3000, MagicCityCasino.com).

The Gay Men’s Chorus of South Florida will present ($35-$150) their holiday concert Dec. 17 at Hard Rock Live (Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino (1 Seminole Way, Hollywood, 800-937-0010, SeminoleHardRockHollywood.com). They will be accompanied by multitalented actor and singer Alan Cumming.

On Dec. 22, comedian Kevin Hart will perform standup ($70-$150) at Hard Rock Live.

The Moody Blues (“Tuesday Afternoon,” “Nights in White Satin”), as a stop on their 50th Anniversary Tour, will be onstage ($46-$116) Jan. 10 at Hard Rock Live. They’ll play their early album “Days of Future Passed” in its entirety.

Jackson Browne (“Take It Easy,” “Running on Empty”) brings his acoustic tour ($61-$101) Jan. 17 to Hard Rock Live.

And Bad Company (“Feel Like Makin’ Love,” “Rock ‘N’ Roll Fantasy”) will be there ($50-$85) on Feb. 13. Performing will be original members Paul Rodgers and Simon Kirke, plus Heart guitarist Howard Leese and bassist Todd Ronning.
