Gulfstream seeks Ms. Racing Queen

The sport of kings at Gulfstream is looking for its queen.

Gulfstream Park Racing and Casino is conducting the Ms. Racing Pageant through March 24.

The goal is to “find a woman that will represent (parent company) The Stronach Group with poise, grace and knowledge of the sport and its participants,” according to a press release.

There will be two contests, one at Gulfstream and the other at Gulfstream’s sister track, Santa Anita in California that  pared the field from 200 to 50 on Sunday, to 20 on March 10 to five on March 17. The five Santa Anita finalists participate in the finals on March 24 at the Sport of Kings Theater in Gulfstream. Ticket information is pending.

During the semifinals, Gulfstream Park and Santa Anita Park will host handicapping seminars, which officials say are critical in educating the contestants on thoroughbred racing, making sure the winner has a base knowledge of the sport.

The five Gulfstream finalists will be pre-qualified for the Miss. Florida USA Pageant held in 2013. The five Santa Anita finalists will receive the same consideration from the Miss California USA Pageant. Both of these state level pageants are the qualifying pageants for the Miss. USA & Miss. Universe pageants.

The pageant will feature graded segments: Evening wear, Derby wear, Casual wear, Fitness (swim suit) and interview. The judges will consist of industry leaders of both the thoroughbred & the pageantry/fashion worlds. Ms. Racing Queen will be chosen based on a point system and the tabulation of the points will be verified by Ms. Racing Queen officials.

The winner will receive $100,000 and contracted to appearances on behalf of The Stronach Group. The runner up to Ms. Racing Queen will receive $50,000.

Ms. Racing Queen will travel to The Florida Derby, The Santa Anita Derby and The Preakness as an ambassador of The Stronach Group. She will engage in photo opportunities, trophy presentations and any other delegated tasks that will positively promote thoroughbred horse racing.
