A new charity poker tournament linking a retired Miami Dolphin, the Hard Rock and World Poker Tour is set for Monday.
The O.J. McDuffie Catch 81 Foundation has created a $200 buy-in event for 6 p.m. at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. Called the Catch On Charity Poker Classic, the event will be held in the main ballroom.
A new WPT venture, the WPT Foundation, is supporting causes at each stop of the tour. For South Florida, it chose McDuffie’s Foundation, named after the former Dolphins’ receiver.
“There are a number of very generous people in the poker world, and the WPT is a big name that can allow us the advantage of being in touch with the biggest players and being able to get a lot of exposure,” WPT president Adam Pliska said.
The Royal Flush Girls and announcer Mike Sexton (photographed) will be there, and about two minutes of coverage will be included in the WPT’s telecast of the $5,000 buy-in Hard Rock Poker Showdown main event, which wraps up Tuesday.
Expected guests include Ki-Jana Carter, Jeff Cross and Jim Jensen.
