The complicated part: There's a lot of acts out there using "The Platters" in their name.
The uncomplicated part: It's good music.
"Wendell Noble’s Tribute to The Platters" plays at 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. Sunday at the Mardi Gras Casino grandstand. Tickets are $10 at the casino or via MardiGrasCasinoFl.com.
The Platters flourished from 1955-67, then dissipated into several groups using the name "The Platters,' including one Noble joined in 1995. The original singers are long gone, lawsuits got filed over who could use "Platters" in their title and who couldn't and Wiki devotes more than a page to the whole thing, and if that's not credibility I don't know what it.
Anyway, all continue to sing such hits as "Only You," "The Great Pretender" and "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes" -- stuff that kind of defines what we mean when we talk about "timeless."Mardi Gras Casino is located at 831 North Federal Highway on the corner of US-1 and Pembroke Road.
