'Poker-cation' in Aruba

Sandy Swartzbaugh is coining a word, but it’s a good word: poker-cation.

The Players Poker Championship is set for Oct. 2-9 in Aruba, and the marquee of the eight events carries a $200,000 guarantee. The tournament has already confirmed 60 satellite entrants and top pros such as Joe Serock, Ronnie Bardah, David Tuthill and Mukul Pahuja. Buy-in is $2,500.

“A solid guarantee, lots of satellite players, plus Aruba is a winning equation,” says Swartzbaugh, the PPC’s commissioner. “We've always stated, ‘This isn't just a poker tournament — it's a poker-cation.’ ”

The tournament is based at the Radisson Aruba Resort, Casino and Spa. Serock, the former World Poker Tour Player of the Year, will host a party on Oct. 3. Swartzbaugh reminds players that they can catch all the rest and relaxation they need on nearby Eagle Beach.

The week will also offer motorized watersports, including high-speed tubing across the Caribbean. Other activities include the Atlantis Submarines Expedition Tour, with views of marine life at depths of up to 130 feet, and fishing, scuba diving, and windsurfing and paddleboarding.
