Price about to increase for Calder's Conine tourney

If you're planning on playing in the Third Annual Jeff Conine Celebrity Poker Classic, you can save $50 if you sign up through Friday.

The tournament returns to Calder Casino & Race Course, on Sunday, Sept. 29. The baseball-themed reception begins at 5 p.m. with the poker tournament at 7 p.m.

Through Sept. 13, it's $250, then it increases to $300. That includes a Celebrity Bounty, where players have a chance to “knock out” their favorite celebrity and win a personally autographed item. Tickets for the VIP welcome reception are also available for $100.

Visit  or call the Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital Foundation at 954-265-7241.

The event raises funds for a worthy cause: the Conine Clubhouse at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital. More than twenty tables will fill the Studz Poker Club at Calder, each featuring a different sports stud as they ante up and test their poker skills, according to a press release.

“We are proud to sponsor the Jeff Conine Poker Classic for a third year. It is a wonderful event to host and a way for Calder give back and to help families in their greatest time of need,” said Austin Miller, president of Calder Casino & Race Course, said in the release.

The event will be flush with options, including a two hour VIP welcome reception with an open bar and buffet. A full deck of silent auction items will feature collectible sports memorabilia with 100% of the proceeds supporting the Conine Clubhouse. Table prizes include: a five-night stay at the Villages at Punta Gabriela in Costa Rica with airfare for two, courtesy of Spirit Airlines; a designer men’s watch valued at $10,000; and a coveted main entry seat at the 2014 World Series of Poker in Las Vegas with air for two, also courtesy of Spirit Airlines.

“Cindy and I greatly appreciate the generosity of the South Florida community and sponsors like Calder Casino & Race Course,” said Jeff Conine. “This event really trumps the other poker events. Last year we sold out and raised more than $115,000 for Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital Foundation and the Conine Clubhouse. We expect an even bigger crowd this year and hope to continue to raise much-needed funds.”

The Conine Clubhouse is a free of charge home-away-from-home for families while their children are patients at Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital in Hollywood, Florida. More than 7,000 families have called the Conine Clubhouse their home at a most important time in their lives. The Conine Clubhouse provides all the amenities of a three- star hotel and is supported through events such as the Jeff Conine Celebrity Poker Classic, the Conine All-Star Golf Classic and community partners such as Calder Casino & Race Course.
