Seminole Hard Rock hires new poker tournament director

He has been on the job only about a month, but right away, there's a big event for David Grub.

The Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown, a series of 62 events, began March 27 and continues through April 20. The main event is a $5 million guarantee event taped by the World Poker Tour.

Grubb, originally from Wildwood Crest, N.J., last worked at Parx Casino in Pennsylvania. He also supervised tournaments at the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa in Atlantic City and the Tropicana in Atlantic City.

"This is something that I've always wanted to be a part of, it's a dream job," Grubb said.

In his short time here, he has noticed that Florida poker is different that what he saw in the Northeast.

"The betting patterns are a lot more aggressive," he said. "They're looking to gamble a lot more."

Grubb is regarded as a strong players in his own right, although he says his career highlight came by winning a 7-card stud high tournament at the Gold Strike Resort and Hotel in Tunica, Miss.

"I think having both a director's and a player's mentality is a good thing," he says.
