The big giveaway this month at Mardi Gras Casino (831 N. Federal Highway, Hallandale Beach, 954-924-3200, MardiGrasCasinoFL.com) is a huge pile of cash — $20,000 — and the loot will be doled out at 10:30 p.m. April 29. But to get your name into that drawing drum, you gotta qualify one of the next four Tuesdays. First, you'll need to earn 20 slot points, and then hope your name is drawn. The casino will pick 10 winners every 30 minutes from 12:30 to 10 p.m. Half of those winners will be paid $100 in cash right away. The other half will go into that April 29 drawing. Meanwhile, the Zombies will play the casino at 8 p.m. Tuesday. General-admission tickets cost $15-$30, and VIP treatment costs $50.
In honor of the $250,000 Calder Derby on Saturday, Calder Casino and Race Course (21001 NW 27th Ave., Miami Gardens, 305-625-1311, CalderRaceCourse.com) provides the $1,000 Pick-7 Handicapping Challenge, as well as the first bet free with the purchase of any full-size program. Saturday nights in April also give guests the chance to spell "Calder Casino" in the $90,000 Word Play promotion and win the $2,500 free play top prize. It's from 6 to 10 p.m. Everyone receives a free daily entry, and they can earn additional entries with every 10 points.
Meanwhile, at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino (1 Seminole Way, Hollywood, 866-502-7529, SeminoleHardRockHollywood.com), a reception for the O.J. McDuffie Catch 81 Foundation will be held 6:30 p.m. Friday at Passion Nightclub. McDuffie is a former Miami Dolphins player and a current do-gooder. Hot weather is coming, and last year's water bottle likely is moldy. So get a new one at the Isle Casino and Racing (1800 SW Third St., Pompano Beach, 954-972-2000, TheIslePompanoPark.com). Slot players who earn 250 points between 11 a.m. and 9 p.m. Tuesday will win one (water not included). The bottles can be picked up after 3 p.m.
Casino Miami Jai-Alai (3500 NW 37th Ave., 305-633-6400, CasinoMiamiJaiAlai.com) will hold its monthly salsa dance contest 9 p.m. Saturday at the Entertainer's Bar. The couple with the best dance moves will take home $500 in cash. Watching is encouraged. As part of the free Latin Flavor concert series, the Riverside Miami Orchestra will perform at 10 p.m. Saturday.
