Pick NBA games at Calder

Calder Casino and Race Course (21001 NW 27th Ave., Miami Gardens, 305-625-1311, held an NFL picking contest in the fall. Now, it’s time for basketball. Patrons can visit a kiosk from 9 a.m. Sundays through 5 p.m. Wednesdays to pick the winners of select NBA games. The top 20 scores every week win a share of $1,500 free play and other prizes. The best 100 prognosticators for the season will split $10,000 in free play.

Seminole Casino Coconut Creek (5550 NW 40th St., 954-977-6700, will give away a Camaro at 9 p.m. Thursday, and, as usual, it’s a multistep game. Ten names will be drawn every hour from 6 to 8 p.m. Each player will pick a random hat. Four will be black and award an instant free-play prize. Six will have colors matching nearby miniature race cars, and players will toss cubes to move their car along a game board. The top two racers from 6, 7 and 8 p.m. will return at 9 for the grand prize race.

Mardi Gras Casino (831 N. Federal Highway, Hallandale Beach, 954-924-3200, offers three slot tournaments on Mondays, at 1, 5 and 9 p.m. Players must redeem 100 points to enter. Prizes total $10,000 in free play.

The Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino (1 Seminole Way, Hollywood, 866-502-7529, has Bonus Side Bet Drawings at its table games at 9 p.m. Wednesdays in January. Table games players can earn entries for side bets won while playing games on Fridays and Saturdays. The dealer will issue one entry for every side bet won. Players will then be directed to place their ballot(s) in the barrel located at the main lobby on Wednesdays after noon. Drawings will be held at 9 p.m. Weekly prizes include a 70-inch LED television, iPad air tables and $100 Visa gift cards.

Casino Miami Jai-Alai (3500 NW 37th Ave., Miami, 305-633-6400 or will give away free play from 5 p.m. to midnight on Friday and Jan. 24, and from 5 p.m. to midnight on Jan. 17 and 31.

Gulfstream Park Racing and Casino (901 S. Federal Highway, Hallandale Beach, 954-454-7000, is presenting Are You Smarter Than a Horse? from noon to 4 p.m. every Sunday in January. Players take turns selecting an envelope that reads, “add,” “subtract” or “multiply.” Contestants roll two dice, and a live miniature horse guesses the number by tapping his foot. If he gets it wrong, the contestant wins $250. If the horse, named Lucky Star, is correct, the consolation prize is $100 in free play.

Hialeah Park Casino (2200 E. Fourth Ave., Hialeah,, 305-885-8000) offers bonus free play on Tuesdays and Fridays in January. Slot players find out how much free play they receive when they insert their cards into a machine.
