Yankees gone, but Bernie Williams is here

Casinos are all about gambling, and Seminole Casino Coconut Creek bet that the New York Yankees would make it to the World Series.

The casino, home to NYY Steak, booked former Yankee Bernie Williams for a meet-and-greet 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, before Game 1 of the World Series. It recruited him long before the Yankees’ bats went cold and the Detroit Tigers swept them.

Spinning a bit, Seminole Coconut Creek Marketing VP Michael Michaud says: “We weren’t sure how far the Yankees would go this year. However, we still want all Yankee fans to know Legends Lounge in NYY Steak is still the best place to watch the World Series and meet some of the Yankee greats.”

Of course, current Yankees players are available now, too …

Before the event, the casino will run a Facebook promotion giving away memorabilia signed by Williams. Go to Facebook.com/SeminoleCasinoCoconutCreek at 4 p.m. to participate.

FYI: Williams is the all-time leader in playoff RBI (with 80) and trails only Manny Ramirez in home runs, 29-22. Hopefully, the casino’s Facebook questions will be more difficult than that.

The casino is at 5550 NW 40th St. Call NYY Steak, the Yankees-themed restaurant with 27 wine-by-the-glass offerings (for the Bombers’ 27 World Series championships), at 954-935-6699.
